Mesothelioma is fairly rare. The average person has a lifetime risk of mesothelioma of about 1/770 (0.13%). There are an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 new cases of mesothelioma each year in the United States. The incidence of mesotheliomas in the United States increased from the 1970s to the early 1990s and then slowly decreased. These changes were seen in men, and are thought to be related to changes in workplace exposures to asbestos. The rate of mesothelioma is lower in women and has been fairly steady for some time. |

"Tropical Periwinkle with a scientific name of Catharanthus roseus, Vinca rosea, is an herb that is used as a source of the potent anti-cancer drugsvinblastine and vincristine. Tropical Periwinkle is an extremely important example of a traditional folk medicine whose use was investigated by a major pharmaceutical company, resulting in the discovery of two alkaloids with practical application in the treatment of cancer. That's right- TUMERIC, the wonderful tasting spice historically used in East Indian foods, can help cancer patients. " Currently, Tumeric is used in India to treat anorexia, liver disorders, cough, diabetic wounds, rheumatism, and sinusitis. In one study Tumeric extract was tested for its anticarcinogenic and antimutagenic properties. Laboratory (non-human) experiments, it was found, that this ancient spice reduced both the number of tumors in mice and the mutagenicity of benzo(a)pyrene (BP) and two other potent mutagenes, NPD and DMBA. |

Patient Reports of Family Cancer History Are Often Inaccurate Getting an accurate family history of cancer from individuals is important for doctors who make recommendations about cancer screening and prevention strategies based, in part, on this information. But, until now, clinicians have lacked good evidence about the reliability of these histories. A studypublished online May 11 in the Journal of the National Cancer Instituteshows that when people in the general population are asked about the history of specific cancer types in their family their responses are often inaccurate. |

Another potential cause of cancer. This is a re-blog.
"Sugars and white flour are believed to have a direct effect on cancer growth, as well as, to nullify the positive effects of protective foods, such as fiber....When someone eats sugar, the body produces insulin, and insulin can promote breast cancer just as Estrogen does...."
